Frequently asked questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are fetched from open.er-api.com, the free endpoint provided by ExchangeRate-API, with US dollars as the base currency. The “last updated” time shown under the result is the time reported by that API itself.
Why might the rate I get at a bank or money changer differ?
This converter uses mid-market style reference rates. Banks, card networks and money changers add their own margins and fees, so the amount you actually receive or pay will usually differ slightly.
What happens if I am offline?
The last successfully fetched rates are saved in your browser. If a new fetch fails and saved rates exist, the converter keeps working with those cached rates and tells you when they were saved.
How is a conversion between two non-USD currencies calculated?
Both rates are quoted against the US dollar, so the tool divides your amount by the “from” rate and multiplies by the “to” rate: amount ÷ rate(from) × rate(to).
Is my amount uploaded or stored?
Your amount is never sent anywhere — it is only used in calculations on this page. Only the public exchange-rate data is downloaded, and a copy of the rates (not your inputs) is cached in your browser for offline use.
