Frequently asked questions
How is keyword density calculated?
Density % = occurrences × words in the phrase ÷ total words × 100. For example, a 2-word phrase that appears 5 times in a 500-word text has a density of 5 × 2 ÷ 500 × 100 = 2.00%.
What counts as a word?
Text is lowercased and words are extracted as runs of letters, numbers and apostrophes, so “don't” counts as one word and punctuation is ignored.
Does “Exclude common words” work for phrases?
No. The common-word filter applies to 1-word phrases only, because removing words from inside 2- and 3-word phrases would break the phrases themselves.
Is there an ideal keyword density?
There is no single proven ideal number. This tool simply reports the figures for your text so you can judge repetition for yourself and avoid wording that reads as forced or repetitive.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is never sent to a server.
