How to use the Meta Tag Generator
- Enter your page title, URL and meta description — the counters show characters used as guidance (aim for ~60 for titles and ~160 for descriptions).
- Add a social image URL, page type, Twitter card type and any optional author, keywords, theme colour and robots settings.
- Check the Google and social previews to see how your page may appear when listed or shared.
- Click Copy HTML and paste the generated tags into the <head> section of your page.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I paste the generated tags?
Paste them inside the <head> section of your HTML page, ideally near the top. If your page already has a <title> element or charset/viewport meta tags, replace the old title rather than adding a second one.
Are 60 and 160 characters hard limits?
No. They are widely used guidelines for how much text search results typically display before truncating. The counters on this page are guidance only — a slightly longer title or description will still work.
What is the difference between Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?
Open Graph tags (og:) control how your page looks when shared on platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Twitter Card tags (twitter:) do the same for X/Twitter. This generator creates both from the same details.
Which fields can I leave empty?
Any of them. Empty fields are simply left out of the generated HTML, except for defaults like the robots setting and theme colour that you choose explicitly.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The tags and previews are generated entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.
