Frequently asked questions

Is my password uploaded or stored?

No. Passwords are generated entirely in your browser using secure randomness and are never uploaded, logged or stored. Once you leave the page, they are gone unless you saved them yourself.

How random are these passwords?

They use your browser's cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling to avoid bias, so every character is uniformly random across the charset you choose.

What length should I use?

At least 16 characters with all character types on is strong for most accounts. Longer is always better — use 20–32 characters where a site allows it, especially for email and banking.

What does “Exclude ambiguous” do?

It removes characters that look alike — 0 and O, 1, l and I — which helps when you have to read or type a password by hand. It slightly reduces strength, so consider adding a couple of extra characters.

Should I reuse a generated password?

No. Generate a unique password for every account and store them in a reputable password manager. Reuse is one of the most common ways accounts get compromised.
